Insurance Comparisons

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 28, 2007

I remember some 20 years ago, sitting in our living room with my husband, as we listened to this man sell us insurance. Both health insurance and life insurance. I know they are called “sales”men for a reason, and sometimes its just really hard to say no. So, we filled out the necessary paperwork and we had insurance. Easy enough.

But, looking back, I can’t help but think how dumb that was. We listened. We signed. We didn’t compare companies, we didn’t make sure we were getting the most for our money. Today, with the invention of the internet, comparing quotes can be done from the privacy of your home, with no salesman, sitting right there beside you. Insurance Portal Online sells all types of insurance including Life Insurance, Auto Insurance and Homeowners Policies. They can provide quotes for you from 140 different companies so you can pick the right company for you.

Unnerving

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 28, 2007

Now that was scary; but God kept me calm. When I left work, I told David it was “building up” in the south. I got home, turned the TV on, and yes, we were under some watches. And then they turned to warnings. Our county specifically was under a tornado warning. But. I watched. And I waited. I called the church to make sure Ethan was where he was supposed to be … just in case we had to head for shelter, I wanted to know where he was. I also let our Youth Director know what was going on with the warnings, but that it didn’t look like it was affecting our town specifically. David wasn’t home. Matter of fact, he was driving right into the area that it was affecting.

But. I stayed calmed. Kept them updated at the church. And it the storm passed on by. Everything inside me wanted to panic. But. I stayed glued to the TV, with phone in hand. I knew I was more functional being the kids’ eyes and ears, than I would be going up to the church and scaring all of them. They probably didn’t have a clue to what was going on.

Did I mention that I *love* spring. I really do. Its just the wicked weather and warnings I don’t like.

Falling Into Place

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 28, 2007

I have stressed, worried, and fretted about this; but things are falling into place, and I feel a great burder lifted off my shoulders. Another person’s decision ultimately helped me to make my decision as well. And actually, I didn’t have to make a decision, but I was able to ask someone to clarify how she understood something, and that made things fall into place.

The person that I thought I would team up with if it panned out that I would be VBS director — she has quit. Not just VBS, but alot of things, including her paid postion at the church. She is one of those people who give 120% of whatever she does; and she took what was a 15 hour a week job, and basically turned it into a full time job, because thats just the way she is. She saw so much that needed to be done, and felt like it was a reflection of her if it wasn’t taken care of. I won’t go into specifics, but I understand her reasons, and I commend her for making this decision.

Our Youth Director came right before I left this afternoon. And … I decided I would ask her how she thought her contract read. She understands it to read that she is to direct VBS..that she wasn’t to last year, but they rewrote her contract and that she is to this year.

Works for me.

So. I will proceed accordingly. I’m not going to think, sleep, or anything else that has to do with VBS. It’s her baby. When she wants me to do something, I will step up and do it, and we’ll go from there. But. I’m not in charge. And I am totally fine with that. Its a relief. And whatever she does or doesn’t do — is in her ballpark. Its not my responsibility to see she is doing it “right”. And now she’s got experience under her belt, so…I’m not going to worry about it. I will just be part of the team, whereever she sees fit to put me, and just be another team member, and not part of the “staff” that makes it happen.

This SO works for me.

The Perfect Look

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 27, 2007

We have all heard the words … face lifts, eye lift, rhinoplasty (nose job), breast reductions, tummy tuck, liposuction, Botox, all forms for plastic surgery … and, I know I’m sterotyping, but playing word association here, rich old women come to mind. Well, rich and pampered. Vain. Already beautiful people looking for that “perfect” look.

But, as a middle age, overweight female living in the heartland of the America, I can’t help but think that some time down the road, I am going to have to search out a plastic surgeon. I am on a weight loss program, and have been successful with it thus far … almost 75 lbs lost. Losing weight has been a life long activity; but something is different this time. I think it has to do with my age, and due to the fact that I pushed my physical being as far as it could be pushed. Whatever the reason, though, as I’m losing the weight, the skin is not retreating with it. Its like its lost its elasticity. Skin can be stretched only so far. This concerns me. It may be a medical necessity that I seek a plastic surgeon. I don’t know. So far, I can “live with” how my body looks. But, as the weight continues to come off, I’m just not sure what to expect. If the skin is hanging like it is now, what will happen after I lost 100 lbs. total. Or 150 lb (thats my ultimate goal). Plastic Surgery 101 is a resource guide for plastic surgery. It is their goal, at their website, to provide you with detailed plastic surgery information so you can make informed decisions as you consider having cosmetic surgery. They cover some of the procedures, show “before and after” pictures in their photo gallery, and cover many of the questions often asked in the FAQ section.

Under Construction

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 27, 2007

For the past year, a building on the north end of our town has been under construction. Last month, it was finally finished; and we were able to move it. We have been in our new church building almost a month now. This upcoming Sunday we will have a dedication service. So, this week has been filled with many extra tasks that need to be done. Today the church was buzzing with activity. Besides the normal bulletin, and other things I do weekly, I also want to get our newsletter out; and because the words “carry-in dinner” were left out of what we put in the bulletin last, postcards are being sent out to “remind” people that might be attending that it is a carry-in, and not a catered meal.

And, amongst all this hustle bustle, I decided to revamp our website. I had it set up in blog style, and my boss keeps asking “well, can’t you ….” — and under a blog format, well…no, you can’t. So, I found a webset that I really really liked, and have now set it up in true “website” style, not blog style, utilizing the i-frame script. Now that I have the “foundation” laid, I need to get all the links updated and active. If you would like to take a peek, its at http://www.christianchurchofburlington.com . When I actually have it done, I’ll post an update here.

Biggest Loser, PPP Style

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 27, 2007

At PayPerPost, besides the great opportunity to make money doing something we love to do (blogging), they also have captivated our interest with a reality show called “RockStartup”. Nothing is held back. The show features PPP team members, posties, and anybody else that happens to cross their path. We get to see behind the scenes PPP footage — at their best, and yes, even at their worst. So often, when we are a part of something, esp. something on the internet, when your interaction is accomplished by a keyboard and screen, you sometimes loose sight of the fact that the people that you are dealing with, working with are… in fact, real people, just like you and me. RockStartup just drives that reminder home, and we get to enjoy the PPP team, and all their antics.

They have done 12 episodes, I believe, to date. My favorite? Well, they are all good, I have enjoyed watching and can’t believe some of the things that have been shared. But, I would have to say my favorite is Episode 11– Can’t Hardly Weight. Being on a weight loss program myself, I can sooooo relate to Britt and Veronique efforts (and sometimes lack of) and reasoning of what to do and not do when trying to lose weight. It brings the “Biggest Loser” to a whole new level. Here….take a look.

Regaining Focus

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 27, 2007

By all definations, my weigh in tonight was successful. I lost another 2 1/2 lbs, making a total of 73 1/2 lbs. I also had her look, to confirm what I thought to be true, I have only gained twice since September, and one of those gains was just 1/2 a pound (the other one was a 4 lb gain, and it was early on, with I was totally “by the book” with this plan, and I have no clue to why I gained that week). So, I’m pleased with tonight’s result because the last few weeks or so, have definately not been “by the book”. Granted, those things I’ve strayed off the path with, have been eaten in moderation, and that is the key. I am encouraged by the loss, knowing what I have done over the last few weeks (and actually, its been more like 6 weeks). The discouraging part about it is if I had stuck to the plan, the losses would have been probably 10 lbs or more. But, I’m still happy with the 4 lbs last week, (which was over the course of a month), and the 2 1/2 lbs. this week.

But now….its time to get back down to business. Stick to the plan, and get focused again. I am soooo close to 75 lbs lost, and I am going to get that and more next go round. AND. If I can lost 75 lbs, then I can loose 100 lbs, and thats what I am going to go after. I’ve allowed myself to live in the real world with lots of variety of real food; but now its time to buckle down and hit the plan hard again.

Focused. I’ve got to stay focused.

Productive Day

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 26, 2007

Things are falling into place. Maybe. At least in my head they are. Now its just a matter of getting them out of my head, maybe on to paper, and most definately into action. I am slowly realizing that part of my “floundering” feelings are coming from not having a definate plan. That I’m just flying by the seat of my pants, which is nothing new. But that I always feel so much better when I actually have a plan, work a plan, and make the plan happen. So. Thats the plan. To get these thoughts on paper, and make them happen. I got clarification on VBS and where we are headed, so I need to take action there. My Page Ranking finally got fixed at PPP, so I am able to take better opps there. Also, I read this post by a fellow blogger, and it just made everything fall into place for me to what I need to do with this little “business” I have set up here, with the paid blogging.

Besides the mind spinning with thoughts, ideas, plans … my hands have been busy as well. Our church is having a dedication service Sunday, and there is alot to do to get ready for it. So, that filled my morning. The afternoon…well, its a Monday. Monday’s are always long and drawn out. I do the billing for this trucking company that my husband does the dispatching for; and the billing takes longer than the 4 hours I have “scheduled” for me. So, its usually 6, 7:00 before I get out of there. Today was no exception. But, it helps offset tomorrow. Tomorrow is my weigh in day in Topeka, and I need to be up there at 6:00. So, at the latest, I need to leave by 4:30. It only takes an hour to get to Topeka. But, by the time you go across town, in “people getting off work” traffic … its always good to allow that extra half hour. Since I always schedule my appointment to be the last one of the day, I definately don’t want to be late, even by a few minutes. When I get there, if I’m early, I can go ahead and shop for my food and go to the bathroom, and usually by the time I do those things, I don’t have to wait too much longer to be called back. I’m not sure if David is going with me tomorrow or not. I know Ethan isn’t….his schedule is worse than mine! But, I’m a big girl. I can go by myself. I don’t mind; and am thankful that I can actually do it these days. There was a time I coudln’t drive that far without falling asleep. Being treated for sleep apnea has definately change my life. Just wish we had figured it out sooner. My mom tried to tell me!

So, I’d best get done all the computer stuff I want/need to get done tonight, because my evening is booked tomorrow night.

Blessings to all.

Big News On The Horizon

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 26, 2007

One thing you can’t say about PayPerPost is that they are boring. Just passing out links for us to write about. They are fine tuning this business of connecting advertisers with bloggers to a fine science, with categories and segmentation. They have their own “reality show” with RockStartup. They have had puzzle piece opportunities, with a wonderful $1000 opportunity for the person who found all the pieces and grabbed the special opportunity first. They keep the place hopping with activity and fun, as well as great opportunities for us that have blogs, and we get paid to do so.

Now they are teasing us. They will be announcing some big news in the next few weeks. Maybe PayPerPost is going to have “a baby” — i.e. branch out, to either a more specialized brand of blogging; or maybe go the other direction to doing some less paid opps but anyone can write about them. Hmm…probably not, because to a certain degree, they are already doing that.

What do we think the world with think? this suggests partnering with somebody. Google maybe? Oh, Oh. I know. They have gotten Bill Gates on board. The world’s richest man… computer guy … surely he blogs, right? hehe.

Thats it. Bill Gates. He is going to become a Postie.

Seriously, I’m sure whatever PayPerPost has up there sleeve will go beyond any of our imaginations, but I’m sure it will also be wonderful, as only PayPerPost can do it.

Questions

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 26, 2007

I don’t want to hit “my boss” (aka our minister) with questions this morning; but these aren’t questions for the sake of asking. These are questions I need answers to so I know how to proceed. I need clarification.

We had a Youth Ministry Team meeting last night. Lots of things discussed. One thing that wasn’t discussed at length was VBS (although, in my opinion, it should have been). It was decided to have a planning meeting March 13. So, here’s where the questions come in. For years, I have been VBS director. I mean, like 12 years I was director. Last year, we hired a Youth Director, and it was my thought that VBS director should come under her direction. I run it passed our minister, and he agreed. Nothing more was said … until late Fall, when the contract for the Youth Director was to be renewed. I felt like in an indirect way, my hand got slapped for passing those duties as VBS director on to her. I understood it to be that she was not to be the director, that she was to help, and she would be compensated for it. I don’t know how her contract reads. I need to get that our this morning and see.

So. Here’s where I feel like I stand. IF she is director this year, thats fine. I don’t have a problem with it. And, I will go to my doctor’s appointment on the 13th, and she, as director, can approach me to what she would like for me to do, if anything. I’m not going to jump in there and say “I’ll do this and this and this”. Part of being director is getting your staff in place.

However. If she is NOT to be director, that is fine too, and I’m willing this year to take that job over again. Michelle works at the church as well, and has some great ideas, and it would be easy for us to get together and work on VBS … moreso than try to do it evenings. If I am going to be in that position though, I really need to attend the meeting on the 13th. Which means rescheduled my appointment, which is no big deal.

I just need clarification. What a way to start a Monday. *sigh.

Visual Appreciation

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 25, 2007

God has given us all gifts and talents. I am thankful for the ones he has given me. But, if I had been given a list and told to choose, one I would have chosen would be the gift of artistry. I have an “eye” for beautiful pictures. My blog is a testament to that. I am always fiddling with it, and wanting it to look just so. Often, a picture is involved. I will be driving to work, and see a sky filled with clouds, and I will think “I wish I could capture that on a canvas”. But alas, that is not a gift God has given me. He has given me the ability to appreciate art, but not the ability to create it.

Russian artist Victor Lysakov is making a groundbreaking presence here in American. His modern art, in my view, is ….”a work of art”. I love his vibrant colors and the uniqueness of each painting. His contemporary paintings include creatures, figures, animals, and nature.

Lysakov was born in 1952 in Siberia and discovered his love of art at a younge age. He realized, when he was just 6 years old, that he could best express himself with the visual. In early adulthood, he veered off the creative path towards enginerring; but his conviction to art brought him back to his craft full time. He formed the company Lysakov Art Company, Inc and celebrated their grand opening in Pacific Grove, CA on February 2 of this year. By the end of 2007, they plan to partner with at least 20 other art galleries throughout the country. Great things lie ahead for this great man!

Sunday & Consequences

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 25, 2007

A busy Sunday, but I’m trying to make the most of it. We have a Youth Ministry Team meeting in a little bit. Maybe the decision is already made, but I think VBS is on the agenda. I’m interested in seeing how it will play out. We have alot to go over — and there are several other things still on the church calendar for today. The younger youth group is have a “special event” evening — movie and pizza. Ethan has the Youth Ministry Team meeting to attend, a Worship team meeting to attend, and Men’s Ensemble practice to be at. Thank goodness they are all under the same roof. If it was up to him, he would also have “Youth Group” to go to; but I’m not allowing him to go. *Gasp. I’m not allowing my child to attend youth group? Let me explain. For starters, its not our youth group. I don’t “take it away from him” as a punishment consequence. I believe he needs to be there regardless. The youth group tonight is at another church. He is going because he has friends who invited him; plus he wants to see why they have a successful program going and ours seem to be struggling. BUT. The reason he isn’t going is because (and this has happened twice now) is — youth group is from 5:30 until … well…I don’t know when. But it doesn’t matter. I told him IF he is going to attend, he HAS to leave at 7:25, regardless if its over or not, and if that is a problem (leaving before they are done), then he just won’t attend.

Twice now, our minister’s wife has had to call to see if Ethan would be at practice. I don’t care that he’s at another youth group - I’m sure he is getting something good from it. But, he has to be responsible, and he has to attend to committments he already has. And one of those is this practice on Sunday evenings. I let the first time ride, with just a scolding. We talked about it last week, right before he went … and it was 7:45 when he called the house, because he was out of gas. He was so in trouble on so many levels. (and i know, if this is the “worse” it gets with him, I am very very blessed). At any rate, if he would have left youth group at 7:15 or 7:20, and then called to say he was out of gas … ok, yes, he still would have been “in trouble”, but I wouldn’t have had an issue with the being late to practice. But, when he didn’t even attempt to leave or practice until 7:40….THAT I have a real problem with; and the consequence is, he can not attend for awhile. He has a lot on his plate anyway, so adding this extra youth group to his calendar probably isn’t a good idea anyway. But, he could have made it work — he could have “done it all” with the Sunday stuff, but he didn’t. So, he has to face the consequences.

Have a great Sunday!

Watching The Weather

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 24, 2007

Looking out the window, it looks like a bright beautiful sunny day. But I just left to run a few errands, and off to the south, it doesn’t look quite so sunny. And it doesn’t help that my cell phone keeps “warning” me that we are under a tornado watch. Just a few short days ago, I was complaining about the cold and ice and wanting spring to get here. But. With Spring, comes tornado season, and that is never fun. I have been blessed to have never experienced a tornado, and I would like to continue that track record. But that doesn’t mean I still don’t worry about it. Tornados are wicked, unpredictable acts of nature, and I live right in the heart of where many of them spawn.

Its been really weird today. Blizzard warnings just a few miles from here, and yet we are 50 degrees and thunderstorms. That can’t be a good combination.

Buying Contacts

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 23, 2007

From about the age of 10, Ethan has wanted contact lenses. He has worn glasses since preschool age; and contact lenses would be taking his corrective eyewear to the next level. At age 10 or 11, we didn’t think he was old enough (or responsible enough!) to wear contact lenses. But, when he turned 14, we decided to give them a try. He has does amazingly well with them, and with his active participation in theatre, it definately has been the route to go with him. But they are expensive; and living in a small town, we are kinda limited to what we can buy.

The Eye Contact Guide just made buying contacts online a lot easier. They search the internet to find us the best deals on contacts giving us the information we need to make an informed buying decision, as well as saving money, esp. when we buy in quantity. The site is updated weekly, and saves me time and the hassle of checking hundreds of websites myself. Their goal is to provide the best deals for buying contacts and consolidates the latest information and deliver it to us, the readers, an great resource tool.

Finding Help

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 21, 2007

We have friends who are the salt of the earth. They have that strong Christian background and live the life that, as Christians ourselves, we strive to live like. But. As Christians, they are not without their problems either. We have kids the same age, who are now adults. We leaned on each other for strength during their teenage years. Now that the kids are adults, the kids have all taken varied paths in life. Its heartbreaking to watch their son give them so much grief.

Right now, a court date has been set for the outcome of the drug charge he had recently. It looks to be that drug rehab will be part of the sentencing. Since we live in Kansas, I’m sure it will be a Kansas based center; but for parents who live in California, they have a place — Cliffside Malibu — as an option to seek help with those they love that need intervention and drug rehab is the answer. I pray for this family daily; and I am thankful that when we, as parents, need a place to turn when helping someone we love is beyond our abilities, that we can turn to these centers for help.

Changed Our Lives

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 19, 2007

It goes without saying that I am an avid PayPerPost fan. I love the opportunity they have given me and thousands of others to earn some serious money. Blogging used to be that “dirty little secret” about me that we told No. One. My husband didn’t understand my blogging and even though he “accepted” it, he didn’t understand it. I’m not sure he understands it even now, but I definately have his interest, because I am talking his language. Time=Money. Alot of the time I spend blogging, I am making money. And I have PayPerPost to thank for that. And, its no longer a “dirty little secret”. He tells Eve.Ry.One. I have redeemed myself in his eyes where money is concerned. I have turned things around. I’m not longer spending more than I make. I am setting financial goals, and go after them. I was able to help with a big chunk of Christmas. We have bought a lap top and a new digital camera. Now I am working towards new tires for my Explorer. After that, we are going to set up an account and put back money for the taxes I will have to pay on all of this, and then from that point on, put a percentage of it in that account, so when it comes time to pay the piper, we will have it. I even threw this out there, and he didn’t even blink. I said that once we had bought tires, and had the taxes put back, I might go out and do something silly — like go buy a “money is no object” leather handbag. And he didnt’ argue with me. He said — … “OK”. I could have never said or done something like that before. The tide has definately changed. PayPerPost has changed our lives. Literally.

Not on board with PayPerPost yet? They have rolled out a new program called “Review Me” and it is designed especially for you — the blogger who isn’t getting paid to blog. What I do is put this badge at the bottom of a post (the more I put them in, the more exposure). This is a special invite for new prospective Posties to review my blog posts. When you click on this badge and sign up with PayPerPost, a special opportunity is created JUST FOR YOU. It is a $7.50 opportunity, and it asks you to write a post in your blog reviewing a post on My blog. Sound easy enough? You’ll see how easy it is to build blog traffic and earn money in the process. Its a win-win situation. Give them a try. Its a great community of people, PayPerPost has a great staff, and they know how to have fun, and how to share the wealth. PayPerPost. Get Paid to Blog. I do. Won’t you?

Online Shopping

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 19, 2007

Shopping online is such an everyday part of our lives now. Thats a fact of life. The people at Elib agree, and that is why they have established an international directory of shopping related websites whose focus is to allow the consumer to select and obtain whatever it is they are looking for, whether it be goods or services. The directory is human edited. Browse through their site by category or by location. Their aim at Elib is to make it bigger and better, so they can offer a great and useful online shopping resource to people all over the world.

After checking out their sites, handbags seem to be an extravagant interest of mine. I was able to find the latest trends in Replica Bags. This is just one of their many many articles, of all imaginable things you can shop for online.

Today is Beautiful!

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 19, 2007

56 degrees outside. After the coldness of the past few months, it is a most welcome change. I would love to take today and bottle it up. There is just a slight breeze. But it is THE perfect spring day. And after being in the single digits just a few days ago, I can’t help but appreciate the warmth of the day, and to praise God for showing us the good in what he has designed. It is an absolutely beautiful day!!!

College Bound

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 19, 2007

With Ethan being a sophmore in high school, college is something that we are starting to look at, and setting a goal ahead of him of where he will be attending. Finding a website like College Match is a real help. They have over a database of over 6,00 technical certfication programs, vocational schools, junior/community colleges adn 4 year universities listed. They have information regarding many aspects of these schools including housing, financial aid, admissions, athletics and more. It is all borke down by state, city and individual college campuses. Their site provides the school name, address, phone, web site, degree program offering, degree type and student count/breakdown. They also provide statistical information on the state and national level. It is an easy to read, easy to navigate sight; but they also encourage you to email them if you have any questions that their site doesn’t answer.

Kansas has 87 colleges listed, some we are very familiar with; and then others than we had never really thought about, but looking at what they have to offer, might be worth considering.

Red Bullet Speed

Celtic Crosses

I don’t wear much jewelry; but when I do, its usually a simple little cross that one of my children gave me a few years ago. I would hate to think about losing it; but if I did, and needed to replace it, Celtric Hills has a nice selection of Christian books and gifts. Browsing through their site, my attention was drawn to their array of jewelry. They have a unique line, including Irish and celtic crosses. Very pretty. There is a celtic cross visor clip and key ring set that would make a very nice gift. Check out their wide selection of gifts for every occasion. They pride themselves in customer service and their large inventory means you will get your order fast.

With A Little Bit Of Help

Posted by Prairierose on Feb 17, 2007

There are hundreds of weight loss products out there. Trust me. I know. I’ve read. I’ve researched. I’ve bought. And yes, I am currently on a weight loss program that has netted me almost 75 lost (yeah me!). You just have to put your mind to what it is you want to accomplish, and go for it. But sometimes, with weight loss, you need a little extra help. MetaboFire is so sure you will be pleased with their product, they are offering a risk free, 7-day free trial of their product. You only pay the shipping. Their product provides a powerful metabolism boost and increases enery so that you can feel better while losing weight. But, as with any weight loss program, it is still a good idea to eat balance meals, small portions, and don’t attempt to try and lose overnight all the weight you’ve gained over the last 10 years. Its just not going to happen. But, with a bit of focus, a game plan, and maybe a little bit of help with a product like MetaboFire , your weight loss success could be within your reach.
