Seeing The Light

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 24, 2007

If we ever remodel our house, one thing I know for sure that I want to change is the lighting. We do have a ceiling fan with a light in the middle of our living room; but it still doesn’t seem to be light enough for me. I have 2 other lights on the end tables that I usually turn on. Just looking at different websites, I think quoizel lighting would probably do the trick. Placed at strategic places in the living, I think we would be seeing in a whole different way. But, I just seem to “need” light. I can’t stand to have the blinds closed at work. And they aren’t even in my room. I’m in the center office, but the rooms off my office all have windows w/blinds. And because of the computer equipment and such, we have always made it a practice to make sure to close the blinds when we leave. If my boss isn’t there when I get to work, that is the first thing I do, is go in his room and open the blinds. I need light!

Snow In The Forecast

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 24, 2007

With a forecast like:  Cloudy With A 20 Percent Chance Of Snow In The Morning…Then Partly Sunny In The Afternoon. Highs Around 40. Southwest Winds 5 To 10 Mph., I think we can safely say that we can pack the camping gear away for a few months. We enjoyed camping this fall, and looking forward to going this spring and summer. But, once it hits 50 or 60 degrees, and lower, we tend to say, “OK, it was fun while it lasted”. Maybe the heater does work in the camper, but I would just as soon not find out. The air conditioner works great, and so I anticipate alot of weekends out to the lake come spring. But, it can’t have snow in the forecast.

Finding The Right Plan

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 23, 2007

After yesterday’s meal, and working on the left overs we brought home today, I am coming to terms with the fact something needs to be done. I’m not sure I want to resort to pills or something like hoodia but, the sad fact of the matter is, something needs to be done. And it needed to be done long before Thanksgiving. I was going to Topkea to a weight loss place, and the plan does work, if you work at it. Just as any plan does. But, I have allowed myself to stray so far away from what the plan intends to do, I’m not sure I’ll find my way back. My friend, Becky, has been doing another plan that I’m really seriously thinking about doing. She is doing well with it, and it involves eating real food. Its all in the portions, and some wise choices, and exercises. I need to read more and see what exactly she is doing. Anything will be better than what I am doing right now!

The Day After

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 23, 2007

Quiet day after yesterday’s festivities. No turkey leftovers for us — those stayed with Matt. He’s going to have lots of sandwiches for days to come. But he did a great job preparing them. I was impressed. For not knowing what he was doing, he did a great job. He prepared not one, but two turkeys for our Thanksgiving meal. He baked one, and smoked the other other one out on the grill. I was a bit concerned that he hadn’t even bought the turkeys Wednesday morning. But he did his homework, and both turkeys turned out moist and tender. We have crowned him “Head Turkey”. He’s doing all the “family” turkey cooking from now on.

I Have A Plan

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 20, 2007

Just one more day, and then we have a long 4 day holiday weekend ahead of us. I can hardly wait. I have a plan in mind, and I would really like to see it fall into place and happen. It goes something like this:

Thursday: We won’t have to be to Matt’s until noon or a little after. So, I’m going to put my guys to work. Ethan can keep the washing machine going, and he can bring those clothes as well as what is on the stack back there, — bring it into David, and David can fold. Between the two of them, its not a hard job, just time consuming, but if they could get it done, it would be a huge burden off of me. While they are doing that, I would be working on the kitchen. Clean the counter top off, go through some cabinets — just get it half way organized …something I’ve wanted to do for awhile. That would take care of Thursday.

Friday: David will go to work as usual. I’m want to break these 3 days down like this: Work, Work, Play. Friday, assuming we go laundry done, and I go the kitchen done, I then want to tackle the dining room. We got part of it done a few weeks ago, and I would like to finish up this weekend. It would also be nice if Ethan would tackle his room. But, if we get the living room done, I’ll be happy.

Saturday: Assuming I got the housework done like I wanted to Thursday and Friday, Saturday I want to do paperwork. Get the IFTA report paperwork done. Literally work on it all done. If I get it done, again, a huge burden off my shoulders.

Sunday: ASSUMING…I got all the above things done, then I would just like to play Sunday. We’ll attend church Sunday, but the rest of the day would be mine. Rent a couple movies, work on blogs, maybe get some entries done ahead, so they are ready to go when its time (like some of the memes and such). And, of course, if there are any blogging assignments to do, work on them. But, just enjoy the day, no pressure, and feel good that I got some things accomplished over the weekend. (instead of playing, with a “I’ll get to it” attitude like I sometimes do).

Now. If the other two will just cooperate and go along with my plan, we should be set. It would be nice if they would pitch in and help! We could do some amazing things if we worked as a team.

Lady Bug, Lady Bug…

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 19, 2007

Fly Away Home. I don’t know what the deal is, and yes, there are worst things to be bothered by. But for some reason, we have an infestation of ladybugs. Hundreds of them. And we have had them for weeks. They crawl around on the screen (which then cast shadows on my desk in the afternoon). There have been a dozen or so inside the office. I go to lay an invoice down or something, and almost smash a ladybug. Or you feel something crawling on you… onto to realize its a harmless little ladybug. Yes, I am very very thankful that its not some other kind of bug, or worse — spiders. But, still. Its a bit annoying.

Leaving A Legacy

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 19, 2007

Each person’s life is a story that is telling itself in the living.
~ A Quote by William Throsby Bridges

A few years ago, I would have thought something like My Footprints.com was a good idea, but something we would do “someday”, and put it on the back burner, and probably would have never given it another thought. But. In the last 4 years, I have had to plan 2 funerals. My mom died unexpectedly, December 2003. The number of funerals I have been to are few, and the number of funerals I have planned, up to that point, were non-existant. I just had no clue. Fortunately, my mom and I were really really close, and the funeral home walked me through the process. Also, my aunt was a part of our lives at that time, so anything about the family or the past that I didn’t know, she had all the answers.

However. When my aunt passed away, who then did I turn to for answers? In all reality, I turned to my aunt. Her death was expected, and she was the type of person who planned for things far in advance. 6 months prior to her death, she and I were sitting in the funeral home, going over the questionaire that they normally used after the person had passed away, and the family gave the answers. I am so glad that we did it when we did, because there was so many things I didn’t know about her, or if I did know about it, I couldn’t fill in the right dates. For instance, I knew she was in the Army. But I couldn’t tell you the years, or what rank she was. She was in the Army when I was a little kid. I didn’t know she had been a church secretary (which I found fascinating, because that I what I am presently). She filled in alot of important information, and I kept that paper in a safe place, and I was thankful that that was one less detail that I had to deal with when she passed away.

My Footprints.com does exact what she and I did in the funeral home, only they taken it a few steps further, and it is online. Its Free to Join. MyFootprints.com is truly a unique website that allows a person make the process of planning a funeral just a bit easier for those they leave behind. Until you are actually in the middle of all the details of a funeral, whether the death is expected or not, you just do. not. realize how many questions there are, how many things need to be taken care of. You think you know the person. But once they are gone, you realize that there are so many questions you didn’t realize you had, until then.

I have signed up, (its free!) and I am going to begin the process of building my “Footprint“. Just a few weeks after my mom died, we discovered that my heart was and still is, in Atrial Fib. It beats out of rhythm a good portion of the time. And I have to be honest. I don’t think I’ll live to be the ripe old age of 90, not even close. And so, if my days are numbered, whether it be next year, or years down the road, I would really like to leave behind a legacy, in my own wording. To create a legacy of who I am — not of who David or Ethan or the rest of my children think I am. My family has alot of information of our family tree, so I would like to build on that, and make that information a part of my “Footprint“. With this service, you can leave final wishes and even emails for people, that will be sent after your death. You can keep a life journal and a secret diary. You can create a timeline of your life.

Since I blog alot, I understand that there is alot “about me” already out there for anyone and everyone to read. Maybe too much information, in the aspect that I have kept a blog for 6 or 7 years now, and that is alot of reading to go through, when you blog most every day. But, being able to go to a website like “My Footprint“, your legacy is all layed out right there. Extensive enough for people to get a feel for who you are, and yet not so much information that it is overwhelming. It even gives obituary information and funeral information.

The process is this. You sign up (and again, I say — its Free!). You create an account. From there, you just start filling in your information. Adding pictures. I know this sounds a bit odd, but in today technology, it makes a lot of sense. Create emails, of things you would like to say to loved ones after you die. Or, if you want your sister to have that special jewelry box, or your youngest daughter to have a certain picture that has hung on your wall for years … those final wishes can be documented within this site. You need to ask someone to be your Trusted Keyholder (that would be maybe someone at your church, an attorney, a family member or a close friend). That person will need to be a member of My Footprints. When you die, that person will be emailed a special code for activation of your Footprint. They will be responsible in accessing your Last Wishes. And they enter any Visitation and Funeral information.

Having been through this process so recently, I love having a tool like this at my fingertips that I can create myself, and hopefully, make the process of planning my funeral just a bit easier. Something else I noticed that I could do — since I do keep a daily blog already, I noticed that they had banners that can be added to my website or blog. With a little bit of code, I can add my Footprint to my blog. I can see my family following along, and perhaps helping me add information and pictures to it. I am going to be sending out invitations to my “Footprint” to friends and family as soon as I get some information added to it.

If you are interested in more information about this truly unique and and dynamic service, I encourage you to play the video below. And I also encourage you to create your own legacy and leave your own Footprint.

“S” Is For Salad

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 18, 2007

That was a no brainer, even though it took me a moment for it to click in that is what I would do. Tonight was our annual Thanksgiving supper at the church. Always lots of good food. And its the only meal of the year that we are “assigned” what to bring, by the first letter of our last name. Any other time during the year, it truly is potluck, and whatever gets brought, gets brought. But for this Thanksgiving one, the CWF ladies furnish the turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, and stuffing. We bring the rest. Our last name starts with “S”, and this year, we were to bring salad. Not because salad starts with “S”, but thats just how the rotation fell. When I think “salad”, I think lettuce. Add some sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, some salad dressings, and you are good to go. But. David doesn’t ask. He tells me what he wants me to take to every get together that requires us to bring food. Its the same request every time. Apple. Salad. Its a recipe that my mom always did, and she always made. But after she died, he asked me if I would make it. Its easy enough, so its no big deal. You just dice up how 5 or 6 apples. Throw in diced up pecans, marshmallows, and stick it all together with Miracle Whip. Thats it. But, its really good, and the bowl always comes home empty. And if it doesn’t … it will be empty before the night is over. I don’t know what it is about that particular dish, but David really like its. And so does my new sister-in-law. I’m just glad its not something complicated. I don’t do complicated.

Tracking Down Information

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 18, 2007

I have my work cut out for me these next couple of weeks. As I look through the newsletters of the past few years, I see lots of things that we did during the month of December and January, that we don’t have on the calendar this year. I could be stubborn and pig headed and take the attitude that if not one gives me the information, I won’t promote it. *sigh. But. I won’t. Monday I am going to make a list of these activities and figure out what Ministry team was in charge of it, and then start making phone calls or sending emails to them and see what is actually being planned. I know in January, we usually do a “Souper Bowl” event“. No, we don’t put up Superbowl tickets for raffle. But rather, we encourage everyone to bring canned goods that will be donated, and we usually do this on Superbowl Sunday. And then that evening, we usually gather at someone’s house and watch the Super Bowl game. Its a great time of food, fellowship and just spending time with Christian friends. I just need to track down information to what we are doing these next few months.

Packing A Bag

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 18, 2007

Oh. Wonderful. David just called and said to get the Samsonite out and make sure he had several days of good clothes ready to go. Him and the boss are going to Iowa to pick up a couple of trucks. That put a crimp in his day, I’m sure. I know he had several truck tires to changed, and I’m not sure what else, but now he has to go to the office and check all the paperwork the driver’s turned in yesterday. He would normally do this tomorrow morning, or even tomorrow afternoon when I would get out to the office. But, they are leaving at 4:00 in the morning, so he needs to have it checked before then. And the real kicker is, under these circumstances, he’d said “Ok, I’ll work until it gets dark, and then I’ll go do the paperwork”. But he can’t do that today. Tonight is our church’s annual Thanksgiving supper. So, he needs to be done and ready to go by 5:30. We wont’ make a late night of it, because 4:00 comes awfully early. Hopefully, they will be back home tomorrow night. I know he used to be gone weeks at a time, but I’m hoping those days are behind us. I did. not. like those days at all.

Signs of Responsibility

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 18, 2007

Something we were concerned about when Ethan started working was how he would manage his money. He was feeling all grown up and he has watched us through the years handling checking accounts and he thought this was what he needed to do. That really scared me, but we decided to give it a go. Except, we did make sure it was a 2-signature account. We told him we wouldn’t dictate what checks he could or couldn’t write. But, if we saw any signs of mishandling the account, then the account would closed, no questions asked. With our names on the account, we weren’t going to go down that path of bounced checks and having to fund him along the way.

He actually has done pretty well. He has paid off some major debts (consequences of action — car accidents). No overdrafts. And now the newness has worn off, and the last few months, he has just paid on his notes, and just carried cash the rest of the time. I know he needs to have “managing a checking account” experience before he gets out in the real world, and so far, he has shown up a good sense of responsibility.

Stepping Up To The Plate

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 18, 2007

I’m proud of Ethan. After all the complaining he did about Kevin scheduling him for yesterday, he not only stepped up to the plate by being up at the school before 7:00 yesterday morning — working all morning (he only needed to work 2 hours… and there were alot of the kids in his class that didn’t work at all. I thought this was Junior Class fundraiser. But, I guess its that way with all organizations. 10% of the people doing 90% of the work….) Anyway, he stopped at 1:00, came home, and then went to work …at his “real” job at 2:00. He worked from 2:00-9:00.

But. What makes me proud of him is that he told us he was probably working today, even though his schedule show he’s off. He said the way they left it was to “be on call”. That there would be a chance they might be calling him if they go swamp. Guess what. They called him. We attended church. Stopped at the grocery store. Everything look under control. We just walked in the house, and Nicky called and said “Ethan, I lied. We need you. Finish your lunch, but could you please come before 1:00?”. He finished his lunch (I’m glad we decided to deli. The groceries weren’t even in the house yet, let alone anything fixed) — and then headed up to work. No complaining. No “this isn’t fair”. Course, I think at this point, he looking at the paycheck that waits for him at the finish line of the week. His normal 2-weeks accumulation of 45 hours or so just went to 56 hours. And if he keeps his charging of stuff to a minimum, he will have a super good paycheck this next time around.

He can be such a pain some times, but he truly is a good kid!

Working Out The Details

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 17, 2007

Last night went well. Russell (the class sponsor) had more than enough help. Lots of parents, lots of kids. He was almost at a loss what to have everyone do. We helped a little, but there really wasn’t a whole lot to do. Now… if we will just half that amount of people come time to close. Right now, the schedule only shows David and myself for the Middle School. I’m hoping others will be there. No so much that “we have to do all the work” to clean up — but rather, just a matter of not knowing what all should be done. My main concern is — we needed like 27 crock pots of chili, plus several more crocks for cheese sauce and the breakfast burritos. I know that we need to wash the crocks and clean up the kitchen. But. What do we do with the crocks then. I know. It will all work out — and even though Russell has to go to Wichita today for a drama club something, he said he should be back by 3:00. So, if he’s there, then I’m not going to stress.

Russell is a pretty detail oriented guy. He heads up the drama club, and and all the theatre productions, and is pretty amazing. He spent a good part of his life in Las Vegas, doing set productions, etc. So, he is bringing a well of information and experience to our small little school. The sets he builds for the plays are amazing. Having him as the Junior class sponsor will be a good thing. Apparently last year, alot of money was spent on decorations, and they weren’t very good. People were. not. happy. With Russell in charge, and his enthusiasm, the decorations will be amazing. He has already said we would probably build most of the decorations for Jr./Sr. Prom, and not “order” a bunch of it in. Hard to believe that my “baby” will be attending Prom this year. It wasn’t that long ago when Jason — my oldest son — was renting a tux and getting ready for Prom. Ethan was literally just a baby then. The years — they do fly by.

Busy Weekend

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 16, 2007

I am not in a good place. This should be a good weekend. It will be a good weekend. And yet, a part of me wishes I could just close my eyes and make the weekend go away. I am feeling overwhelmed by what needs to be done. I am at a place where I just don’t want to go out, be among people. But this weekend is about doing things, being out and around people. Starting tonight. Ethan’s Junior Class has a major fundraiser tomorrow — 2 concessions at the Craft show that is going on tomorrow. We signed up to help set up tonight. Tomorrow, I will attend the craft show, and walk through the 2 schools, looking at wonderful neat crafts. This craft show is amazing. We signed up to work from 3:00 - 5:00, which is an hour of selling and an hour of clean up. Then on Sunday, it is the annual Thanksgiving supper at the church, with a program afterwards. So much for staying home. I have several paid opps that HAVE to get done this weekend. I have several household things that HAVE to get done this weekend. I do feel better today, and I felt pretty good yesterday. But the first couple of days this week, I wasn’t worth 2 cents. I didn’t even feel like blogging, and that is pretty bad. So. Just gotta focus, make a list, and start marking things off. Its the only way this weekend will work.

Designed With The Small Business In Mind

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 15, 2007

When I was in High School, I had a hard time envisioning what I wanted to do once I graduated, but I took classes of subjects I enjoyed, and that included all the business classes our school had to offer. Typing, shorthand, accounting. Life, as it often does, took a different turn, and I spent the next 5 years being a mom and working in an office was the furtherest thing from my mind, for the most part. When I knew my marriage was coming to an end, I did choose to take some college classes, and again, they centered around office classes.

So, its not surprising, when I landed on my feet after my divorce, that I would eventually find myself working in an office. I didn’t start out in an office, but when the boss walked into the area that I was working (in a manufacturing plant — we manufactured plush toys and hand puppets), and asked if anyone could type … I raised my hand. He reassured me that it was just temporary, that I was just needed in the office to get them through the Christmas rush.

Yeah. Right. When the plant closed it doors some 18 years later … I was still working in the office. I gained alot of experience along the way, some good, some bad. I still work in an office. Actually 2. Answering the phone is part of my job requirements, just as it was at the manufacturing plant. However, only responding to 2 lines compares dimly to the 6 lines we had at the manufacturing plant. 6 lines and 7,000 customers. That was 8 years ago. I know technology has developed a great deal since then. It would have been wonderful to have something like Talkswitch. Talkswitch is a phone system designed with the small business in mind. Its packed with the latest voIP technology. What a godsend it would have been to have voicemail, or multi-level auto attendants. To have been able to take advantage of remote extensions and sophisticated call handling features. It would have also helped reduce some of our communication costs, and helped us stay connected. And it would have been a snap to install, with the standard connections and free PC configuration software.

ns220andpbx-250.jpg

Talkswitch is a product from Neobits.com, a website that has over 3,000 customers nationwide, offers an extensive line of phone systems — for business ranging between 2 and 250 users. They carry brands such as Avaya, Panasonic, NEC, Talkswitch, Allworx, and more. Living out in the middle of nowhere, knowing they can perform local installations services in every zip code, and offers dial tone and broadband internet in all states is important to me. Nothing frustrates me more than to find a new tech gadget that I would really love to have, and would be a perfect working tool, only to find that service isn’t covered in my area. I love my small town life, but it does have it drawback sometimes. Neobits is a powerful but yet affordable company worth looking in to.

Plan Change

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 15, 2007

Ethan is not impressed. But that is life, and part of the working world. Its also called compromise, and he can do both, if he would stop being so stubborn. This weekend is the annual craft show. Major event for this small town. Some 200 vendors will be setting up their booths at the high school and middle school. It draws lots of people, and lots of revenue. The Junior class has 2 booths — one at the high school, one at the middle school. This is one of their major fundraisers. We have been involved in all the meetings and planning. David and I are signed up to work a couple of different times; plus, we donated cash, rather than food items to help the cause.

Ethan put in a request to not work this Saturday. And when he got his schedule last Friday, the request was honored. Kevin gave him Saturday off, and increased his hours during the week.

All was good. Until Keven realized that this is Thanksgiving weekend. A busy busy weekend for those in the grocery industry. Plus, apparently, someone that Kevin DID schedule to work this weekend, came in and said they had to go out of town this weekend. So, Kevin called Ethan and told him he would have to work this Saturday. Ethan was so not impressed.

However. He has to work from 2:00 - 9:00. Yes. I know it will make for a very long day, but if he is truly as “committed” as he says he is, he could do both. The first shift of people to work the concession stands Saturday will be there at 6:30 am. He can work all morning — take an hour or so off at noon, and go to his “real” job at 2:00. He can do both, if he’ll just work with it.

I understand his frustration, but thats just part of it. And, he has to keep in mind, he’s not working just for the sake of working. Part of his working is consequences for his actions. 3 vehicle accidents in less than a year. The insurance paid for the first one. He worked and paid for the 2nd one. And now he is working off the damages for the 3rd one (well sorta … he remodeled my Explorer. We never turned it in to insurance, and we aren’t fixing it. But, his “consequence” is that he pays $100 a month towards the loan note we have on it .. and we have 6 months left to pay. When its all said and done, he will have paid around $800 towards the Explorer note, which is still considerably less than what he would have paid if we had fixed it).

So. I’m sorry Ethan. That’s life. And at least Kevin gave you hours that worked where you can do both. He could have scheduled you to work 8:00 - 5:00. THEN you would have had to have “picked” one…and we know which one it would have been. So, at least the way it is now, you can do both, and all is well.

Making Sense of Today’s Technology

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 14, 2007

I will be the first to admit that I am pretty much clueless in the world of technology. Yes, I have a cell phone, I can find my around the internet pretty well and I can hack Word Press themes with a degree of knowledge. Ethan puts MP3 player headphones on me from time to time to listen to a song, but beyond that, I’m pretty much clueless. Oh, yeah, I also have a digital camera, and a card reader, and use it pretty frequently. And I know that I need a larger card. There are times my 2 GB card just doesn’t get it. But beyond that, thats pretty much it. I watch in amazement as Ethan downloads songs on his MP3 player, and some of the termanology he knows — just what is a micro sd or a memory stick, or a compact flash CF? I have heard these words, but I’m not totally clear to where they are used, and what they are used for. Maybe someday, I’ll be up to speed with today’s technology. Today just isn’t the day.

My Town Tuesday

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 13, 2007

mytowntues_streetsign.jpg

I am starting a new meme over at my “Focus On Kansas” blog. Every Tuesday, at your blog, post a picture or write something about your town. You don’t have to tell us what town you are from. Just share with us why its “your” town, and why you like or don’t like living there. Or just post a picture from “around” town. The possibilities are endless. Down the street. The changing of the seasons. Different stores. Landmarks. Things that make your town different from the town down the road. Then go to the current My Town Tuesday entry and sign Mr. Linky.

Me? A Procrastinator?

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 12, 2007

Am I a procrastinator? hmmm… let’s think. This is something I have wanted to write about for awhile, but for some reason, kept putting it off. Go figure.

In a book I read awhile back, it said some of the warning signs of a procrastinator are:

  • Do you often wait until the last minute to start a project?
  • Do you frequently send belated birthday cards?
  • Do you usually finish filling out your tax form on April 15 or later?
  • Do you do all your holiday shopping on Christmas Eve?
  • Do you regularly put off going to the doctor or dentist?
  • How long have you been waiting to clean our your closet/drawers/kitchen/medicine cabinet?
  • Do you often put off making a decision about something?
  • Are you waiting for the “right” time to make the dreaded phone call, confront your boss about a well-deserved raise, or start an exercise program?

Ok.  Guilty as charge.  Only, its not Christmas Eve.  December 20, 21st… maybe.  But, not Christmas eve.  But I get their point.  I would say I am definately a card-toting, member-belonging procrastinator.  After all, its only taken me a month to write this.   Its been in draft mode for at least 30 days.   Granted, there’s not a deadline to actually publish this, but I did find it interesting.  And just confirmed what I knew along.

Cat 6

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 10, 2007

You learn something everyday.  I asked Ethan about  Cat6 and he said he loves his cat 6 would be too many. Good one, Ethan. But curiosity got the best of me to do a little research on just what cat 6 was. It is a type of product — Cat 6 or Category 6 Ethernet cables. Ah ha. Now that makes a little more sense. Its a technology thing. A lot of companies push their current technology to the limit with the demands they have with their day to day activities, needing faster networks, and high bandwidths. Cat 6 can help with transfering large files or steamline digital video and audio conferencing. It makes sense. Kinda. I do have to agree with Ethan though. We love our cat. But being in a cat6 house would be way to many.

I love Saturdays. I still get up at the same time as I do weekdays, but the day is mine to do as I please. And often, I will fix breakfast, something I don’t do during the week. The breakfast of choice around here seems to be bacon, eggs, and hashbrowns. I drag out my griddle, and it usually takes 30 - 45 minutes to fix the entire breakfast. I cook the bacon first, and then the hashbrowns, and then the eggs. When I was asked to review a microwave bacon cooker, I jumped on it in a heartbeat. It is a new invention. At first glance, it looks like plastic juice pitcher. But upon closer observation, you will discover that it has a paddle-type thing in the middle, where you hang individual slices of bacon. You attach the lid, and lower it down into the pitcher-type-unit, and lock it shut. Pop it into the microwave, for 30 seconds, to 3 minutes, depending on how many pieces you are cooking. Easy-peasy, and quick! I did find that it does better with the thin sliced bacon than it does with the thicker sliced bacon, but its great for both. Its totally enclosed which means no more grease platterings on my counter top, or on my shirt. I have not seen any other unit like this on the market, so I was thrilled that I was able to receive it and try it out. Only, I’ll be doing more than just trying it out. I’ve tried it out, and have used it several times since. Breakfast time was cut in half or more. Great time saver as well.

New Browser

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 10, 2007

I know my last post was a bit strange — although one person picked up on it and knew what it was about.  I was trying out a new browser.   I have used Firefox for awhile now, and liked it so much more than Internet Explorer.  However — I am totally sold on Flock.  Its going to take me a bit to get it all set up the way I want it, but it is definately my browser of choice now.  You can do everything from one place — including what I am doing right now.  Blogging.  Instead of going to each of my individual blogs and posting, I can do my entry here, and then choose which blog I want it to be published to, and I’m good to go.    I can also upload pictures to my Flickr page, right here from my Flock page.  All my favorite bookmarks and RSS feeds can be read from here.  I was able to import them in from my Firefox information, so I don’t have to start over.  I’m.  Impressed.

Sedation Dentistry

Posted by Prairierose on Nov 09, 2007

I am going to have to break down one of these days and have a dentist look at that back tooth.  It doesn’t hurt, but I do get twinges every once in awhile that makes me think that I’m going.  One of these days, I’m going to wake up and be in major pain.   I do want to find a different dentist, though.  With today’s technology, there is no reason why anyone should have to suffer any kind of pain when seeing a dentist.   The last couple of dentists I’ve gone to (now granted, its been several years) — they still use the shots for pain deadening.  I need drugs.   Sleepy drugs.  Such as what is used through the  santa barbara sedation dentistry

David had all of his teeth pulled in Kansas City probably 13-14 years ago.  When they did the top, they did sedation with a mask, and all was good.   When he went back several years later to have the bottom ones pulled, they had changed policies, and wouldn’t do the sedation.   And it took forever to get David’s gum numb where he could pull the remaining teeth.   It was. not.  a good deal.  I am not going to go through that — not even for one tooth.  Sedate me.  Thats the only way to go.

Best Of Both Worlds

I’m not sure what you are seeing right now, as you read this.  But I do want to call your attention to a new addition to the sidebar.  There is a section that says “Themes”.  It is a dropdown box.  And it has 4 or 5 different names listed.  Those are themes I have loaded at this blog.  Its been awhile since I’ve used a Theme switcher.  But, I decided it was time to bring it back out, dust it off, and use it.  I have one theme that is a fall theme.  Simplistic, and works, I think, for the paid blogging aspect of this blog.  That is the one I have set as default.   If you don’t mess with the theme switcher, that is the one that should come up each time you check in.

I would like to call your attention to the “Gingerbread Girl”.  I absolutely love this theme.  Yes, it is a Christmas-y theme, but for me, Thanksgiving also brings to mind, baking and gingerbread smells throughout the house.  Gingerbread can also represent Valentine’s.  So, I’m not limited to using this theme just at Christmas.   But, I wasn’t sure but what it wasn’t too “cute-sy” for the advertisers and paid blogging.  The theme switcher solves that problem.   The advertiser, checking my paid entries, will see a more professional looking blog.  But I get to enjoy the using other themes as the mood strikes me.  I uploaded several themes that are very distinctive winter themes.  But when I uploaded them, it was summer time.   I’ve kept them uploaded, and now, its almost time that I can put them to use.  With the theme switcher, I can whenever I want.  I love technology.  I just wish I knew how to do more.  I would love to learn PSP someday.  Even just simple blinkies.  I have come a long ways in what can do with websites and blogs and html.  But there is so so so much more to learn.  And I want to learn it!   Someday.
